Great Sadness Sands Carlise Clousre Due to RAAC ..

Hell it’s been bad for education establishments, the UK government has shifted it’s stance on RAAC concrete slabs putting previously “on watch” installs into “no go” zones , the structural prouct hailed as a building advancment offering light weight construcion solutions has come back to bite us on the posterior.

One of the clients we work closely with “The Sands” has been found to have the dreaded RAAC and forced to close its doors. See this news articel

The Sports and Entertainment venue in Carlisle has undergone a £25M rebuild, but the focus was on the spors side which in itself caused heartbreak as the much loved climbing wall , present since opening in the early 80’s was not included in the new porposal. relocation of the city swimming baths to the new build was completed , although opening hours are not great and the old sites historic turkish bath complex has been left for dead. Unfotunatly we lost the wall and the squash courts too. And no work was done on the other side of the building.

In the September RAAC debarcle the roof of the SANDS came under scrutiny.

The events team had been puting huge efforts into the load inand set up of a first class, high profile event “Shrek The Musical”. The work with the touring tech team had been brilliant to get the venue ready for the Players to enthral the crowd. but as finishing touches were mad to the elaborate install, the crushing news came that the venue was being forced to close.

Having put all the heart and effort into the build for the show , the dejected team and touring support had to pull everything back out again under an umbrella of future uncertainty for any upcomming event.

Shrek left having not performed a sinle line on stage, Tech team left dispondant that thier home and team had been shut down for an unkown period.,

The hope is to have the auditorium roof inspected and passed or made safe in order to re-open , events for September and October have been postponed but there is still hope that the Christmas Pantomime will be able to go ahead as it’s goign to be the best ever.
